Chris Jordan’s latest project, Running the Numbers, examines vast and bizarre measures of American society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs.  Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 28,000 42-gallon barrels, the amount of of oil consumed in the United States every two minutes (equal to the flow of a medium-sized river).

The grass is always greener and why a dog is mans best friend

island

Living on an island certainly has its benefits. That said, I came across this post today on landscape photography by the guys at designm.ag.  It got me thinking about all the things in life I really value and really miss: mountains, the great outdoors, unknown travel  and adventure, sharing moments of infinite beauty, my girlfriend . . . it also made me think if I leave this Island would I have the same longing for the things I value about living here too?  To get my head around this weird impulse I did some reading on the psychology of why the grass does indeed always seem greener, leading me to this post on presence, unconditionality, acceptance and connection.  To cut a long story short we need to think more like dogs.
